Theme of Focus: DOCUMENTATION 2003

FOTOGALERIE WIEN – THEME 2003: DOCUMENTATION

In the second exhibition of the series DOCUMENTATION the artists have a good look at the theme Nature – Culture, however from different perspectives. Artists use photography, video and installation to make their point clear.

Intersection between Nature and Culture

Hanns Otte intends to confront us with the sight of a distant observer, who perceives the connection between human beings and nature just as concomitant. The composition itself in his work „Muttergestein“ and the physical training in his work „Das Ende vom Weg“ are his central themes.

Sunshine, Sex and Nature – in Eva-Maria Riegler´s work the landscape view is central, which shall give the spectator the feeling to be part of the landscape itself. „Intime Landschaften“, the title of her work, shall make the spectator feel like standing on a playground of feelings.

The large sized pictures of Martin Vesely romanticizes nature, and his works “Donauau 02” and “Hawai 01” consequently remind us of the Age of Romanticism.

„Waiting for the Perfect Moment“ Martin Osterider documents the documentation of nature. Blooming parks, sun sets in Japan – the landscape is getting one with the many tourists holding the cameras in their hands waiting for the perfect moment to release the button- to capture the right and perfect motive.

Thomas Wrede shows a different approach with his work „Magic Worlds“. Zoos, adventure- and Lunaparks are his motives. His work is an insight into our world, where nature and human beings are fighting for biosphere; meanwhile a new world of artistic nature is created.

Eva Brunner-Szabo & Gert Tschögl / memoryPROJECTS not only take pictures of places, but also objects which they found at those places. Those objects, naturally and artificially, are proof for their own presence at those places. They discover that collecting is a good technique for documentation.
